“Bilateral and regional issues were addressed within the context of Turkey’s relations with the Council of Europe. During the meeting, views were exchanged on the issues of terrorism, migration, refugees, and the Council of Europe’s neighborhood policies,” Turkish diplomatic sources told following the meeting.

In May 2011, at the 121st Ministerial Session in Istanbul, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE) endorsed the Secretary General’s proposal for a CoE policy towards neighboring regions, covering the Southern Mediterranean, the Middle East and Central Asia.

Agramunt is currently in Ankara for a two-day official visit. On the first day of his visit on June 6, he also met with Parliament Speaker İsmail Kahraman and held a closed-door meeting.

While in Ankara, meetings are foreseen with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.

Agramunt is also scheduled to meet EU Minister Ömer Çelik, Chief Ombudsman Mehmet Nihat Ömeroğlu and Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) head Fuat Oktay.

In parliament, he was set to hold talks with the members of the Turkish delegation to PACE and members of parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
